Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard re-connects with an old friend in this wordless, yet breathtaking film clip from the much-buzzed foreign drama "Rust and Bone." As you can see, her friend is a six ton Orca whale that still remembers her fondly, even though she hasn't been around the Water Park lately. It seems Cotillard, who plays a whale trainer, is struggling to piece her life back together since her life-altering accident caused the loss of her legs.
Could this deeply emotional performance grant the French actress her second Oscar? We're not sure, but it would be a rare achievement, considering most multiple Oscar winners have won them for English-language movies. But we suspect plenty of awards buzz awaits for Cotillard, and possibly even for director Jacques Audiard, who certainly has us baffled with this scene -- is that a real whale or what?
"Rust and Bone" opens in NY and LA on November 23rd.
Jaqcues Audiard, acclaimed director of A Prophet and The Beat That My Heart Skipped, returns with this tough but tender romantic drama about two people from very different worlds seeking redemption in each other. Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose, Inception) stars as Stephanie, a killer whale trainer who late one night meets Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts, Bullhead) in a fracas at the nightclub where he works as a bouncer. Put in charge of his young son, Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts) has come from Belgium to Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Alain’s bond with Stephanie grows deeper after Stephanie suffers a horrible accident, bringing the two together once more.
