Step aside, Jason Statham! There's a new vigilante in town, and she's a force to be reckoned with -- a true action hero we can all rally behind. And her name is June Squibb, that sweet old lady from "Nebraska."

Check out the official trailer for "Thelma," a new revenge comedy starring 94-year-old Oscar nominee June Squibb in her first leading role as the titular Thelma, an elderly woman who is scammed out of her money by a phone grifter pretending to be her grandson. So, she sets out to settle the score by jumping on her electric motorized scooter with a gun in hand. It's a lot like Jason Statham's "Beekeeper," but with less government conspiracy and more geriatric hijinks.

The film also stars Fred Hechinger (from "The White Lotus") as Thelma's grandson, Daniel; Parker Posey ("Beau Is Afraid") as Thelma's daughter and Daniel's mother, and Clark Gregg ("Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") as Thelma's son-in-law and Daniel's father. Legendary actor Richard Roundtree (Shaft), who sadly passed away back in October last year at the age of 81, makes his final performance in the film. He plays Thelma's best friend and unwilling accomplice.

"Thelma" emerged as one of the standout comedies from Sundance earlier this year, introducing the rise of new comic talent Josh Margolin in his debut as a feature director. Margolin not only directed but also wrote the screenplay, drawing inspiration from his own grandmother's personal encounter with a phone scammer.

Co-starring Nicole Byer and Malcolm McDowell, "Thelma" is slated to hit theaters on June 21st.

synopsis:
The feature directorial debut of Josh Margolin, THELMA is a poignant action-comedy that gives veteran Oscar-nominee June Squibb (NEBRASKA) her first leading role and features the final performance of trailblazing actor Richard Roundtree (SHAFT). Squibb, who did most of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus' Fred Hechinger) and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend (Roundtree) and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her.

Inspired by a real-life experience of Margolin's own grandmother, THELMA puts a clever spin on movies like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, shining the spotlight on an elderly grandmother as an unlikely action hero. With infectious humor, Margolin employs the familiar tropes of the action genre in hilarious, age-appropriate ways to tackle aging with agency. In the first leading film role of her 70-year career, Squibb portrays the strong-willed Thelma with grit and determination, demonstrating that she is more than capable of taking care of business -- despite what her daughter Gail (Parker Posey), son-in-law Alan (Clark Gregg), or grandson Danny might believe.
