A father and his teenage daughter begin to bond when they unexpectedly join a local theater production in the heartwarming family drama "Ghostlight," which has released an official trailer.

Making waves as one of the breakout films at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "Ghostlight" marks the directorial debut of actress and filmmaker Kelly O'Sullivan, who co-directs alongside her partner, filmmaker Alex Thompson.

What sets this indie film apart is its use of a real-life acting family in its leading roles. Keith Kupferer, a veteran character actor, stars alongside his daughter Katherine Mallen Kupferer, known for her role in "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret," portraying a father-daughter duo on screen. Similarly, Tara Mallen, Keith's real-life wife and Katherine's mother, takes on the role of the family matriarch in the movie.

"Ghostlight" revolves around Dan, a hardworking blue-collar construction worker portrayed by Keith Kupferer, and his teenage daughter, Daisy, played by Katherine Mallen Kupferer, who is struggling emotionally. Despite faithfully driving Daisy to her therapy sessions each week, Dan finds it challenging to connect with her on an emotional level. Their relationship remains strained as they avoid discussing their feelings. However, everything changes when Dan stumbles upon a local theater group rehearsing for "Romeo and Juliet" after dropping Daisy off at her therapist's office. Intrigued by the opportunity, Dan decides to join the production, initially keeping it a secret from Daisy. When Daisy discovers her father's involvement, she confronts him but eventually decides to participate as well. As they both become immersed in the play, it becomes a pivotal process for both of them to mend their relationship.

Dolly De Leon, the acclaimed Filipino actress known for her breakout performance in 2022's "Triangle of Sadness," co-stars in the film as one of the local actors in the play. Director Kelly O'Sullivan wrote the screenplay herself, marking her directorial debut. O'Sullivan co-directs with director Alex Thompson, with whom she previously collaborated on the 2019 indie "Saint Frances," where O'Sullivan wrote and starred.

"Ghostlight" received critical acclaim following its premiere at Sundance earlier this year and has been picked up by IFC Films for a theatrical release on June 14th.
