When a Jedi is suddenly murdered under mysterious circumstances, it sets off an investigation that uncovers a startling revelation. Check out the new official trailer for "The Acolyte," dropped today on May the 4th, also known as "May the Force be with you" day.

"The Acolyte" marks an exciting addition to the "Star Wars" universe, exploring the High Republic era, set approximately two centuries before the events of "Episode I: The Phantom Menace." At this point in time, the Jedi Order is flourishing, but there's an ominous presence lurking right underneath the surface. The dark side is growing stronger, and a shocking string of unsolved murders of Jedi Masters sparks an inquiry, revealing a changing balance of power.

The Disney Plus original series boasts a talented cast of diverse actors, including Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix Films), Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Manny Jacinto (NBC's The Good Place), Dafne Keen (Logan), and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), among others.

Leslye Headland, a self-described "Star Wars" fangirl, is the mastermind behind the new show. Headland is perhaps best known for co-creating the popular Netflix comedy series "Russian Doll" alongside Natasha Lyonne. Additionally, she wrote and directed the dark romantic comedy "Sleeping with Other People" and the edgy female-led comedy "Bachelorette."

"The Acolyte" will debut with a special two-episode premiere on June 4th, available exclusively on Disney Plus. Subsequent episodes will be released on a weekly basis following the premiere. Watch the new trailer, above.
