Legendary Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, of "Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now" fame, has unveiled the first teaser for his latest (and possibly final) magnum opus, "Megalopolis," starring Adam Driver as a visionary determined to transform a ravaged city into a utopian paradise.

Self-financed by Coppola himself, who reportedly sold a significant portion of his private winery to amass the $120 million production budget, "Megalopolis" has been a labor of love for the filmmaker since the early 1980s. The script underwent extensive development over the decades, experiencing numerous false starts and delays along the way. With "Megalopolis," Coppola marks his directorial comeback, stepping behind the camera for the first time since writing and helming "Twixt," the 2011 experimental Gothic mystery-horror starring Val Kilmer and Elle Fanning.

In addition to Driver, the film boasts a stellar all-star cast that includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Talia Shire, and Dustin Hoffman, among others.

Described as a science fiction opera, "Megalopolis" is set in a future world where a metropolis resembling New York City has weathered a catastrophic event. Cesar (Adam Driver), a prominent architect within the city, envisions a transformative plan for the future: to reshape the urban landscape into a sustainable utopia. Yet, his ambitious efforts encounter obstacles in the form of the city's mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) and his debutante daughter (Nathalie Emmanuel).

"Megalopolis" is set to make its world premiere later this month at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, as of yet, doesn't have a U.S. distributor, although the French studio Le Pacte has recently secured the French distribution rights.

synopsis:
An accident destroys a New York City-like metropolis already in decay. Cesar (Adam Driver), an idealist, aims to rebuild the city as a sustainable utopia, while the venal mayor, Frank Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), has other plans. Coming between the opposing men and their visions is Frank's socialite daughter, Julia (Nathalie Emmanuel). Tired of the attention and power she was born with, Julia searches for her life's meaning.
