"Run Lola Run," the adrenaline-pumping German thriller that captivated audiences in 1999, is marking its 25th anniversary with a stunning 4K restoration, set to hit theaters once again in June.

Sony Pictures Classics has released the official re-release trailer for this action-packed, time-bending film, which took the world by storm and clinched the Audience Award at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival.

Written and directed by acclaimed German filmmaker Tom Tykwer, known for his work on "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" (2006), "The International" (2009), and "A Hologram for the King" (2016), as well as co-directing "Cloud Atlas" with The Wachowskis, "Run Lola Run" served as a launchpad for the career of German actress Franka Potente (famous for roles in "The Bourne Identity," "Conjuring 2," FX's "Taboo," and TNT's "Claws").

In the film, Potente portrays Lola, a spirited young woman embarking on a race against time through the bustling streets of Berlin to rescue her boyfriend, Manni, from a fatal blunder. With a mere twenty minutes to secure a large sum of money, Lola navigates a labyrinth of life-altering decisions and chance encounters, each steering her towards a different fate. In a bold move, the film adopts an experimental story structure, presenting three distinct outcomes where Lola races against the clock, blurring the boundaries between destiny and self-determination.

German actor Moritz Bleibtreu, from "The Fourth State," "World War Z," and "Speed Racer," co-stars as Lola's hapless boyfriend, Manni. Other cast members include Herbert Knaup, Nina Petri, and Armin Rohde.

"Run Lola Run" revolutionized arthouse cinema with its innovative storytelling techniques, utilizing photomontage, dynamic camerawork, rapid editing, and pulsating electronic dance music as a score. Audiences can relive the thrill or discover it for the first time when the film returns to theaters on June 7th.

synopsis:
Lola (Franka Potente) answers a call from her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtru), a small-time courier for a big-time gangster. He has a problem: His boss is coming to pick up 100,000 Deutsche Marks in twenty minutes, and he doesn’t have the money. With Manni’s life on the line, Lola runs through the streets of Berlin to reach him and somehow pick up 100,000 marks along the way, making split-second decisions and encountering acquaintances, family, and strangers. As the clock ticks down, the tiniest choices become life-altering (or life-ending), and the fine line between fate and fortune begins to blur.
