Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the role of Vincent, a puppeteer reminiscent of Jim Henson, in the official trailer for "Eric."

Set in 1980s New York, this Netflix original miniseries follows Vincent, a devoted family man who creates the beloved children's television show "Good Day Sunshine." When his nine-year-old son mysteriously disappears on his way to school, Vincent is consumed by grief and despair. As the New York detectives investigate the case, Vincent embarks on a desperate mission to bring his son home. He creates a new puppet character for his show, a blue monster named "Eric" based on his son's drawings, hoping that this will somehow lead to his son's safe return.

The six-episode series is created and written by acclaimed Welsh playwright and screenwriter Abi Morgan, known for her work on films like "The Iron Lady," "Shame," and "Suffragette," as well as TV dramas such as "The Split" and "River."

Alongside Cumberbatch, the series stars Gaby Hoffmann as Vincent's wife, McKinley Belcher III as the lead detective, and Ivan Morris Howe as the missing son, with William Hope and John Doman in supporting roles.

Directed by Lucy Forbes ("This Is Going to Hurt"), "Eric" is set to premiere on Netflix on May 30th.

synopsis:
Set in 1980s New York, Eric is a new emotional thriller from Abi Morgan following the desperate search of a father when his nine year old son disappears one morning on the way to school. Vincent, one of New York's leading puppeteers and creator of the hugely popular children's television show, 'Good Day Sunshine,' struggles to cope with the loss of his son, Edgar, becoming increasingly distressed and volatile. Full of self-loathing and guilt around Edgar's disappearance, he clings to his son's drawings of a blue monster puppet, ERIC, convinced that if he can get ERIC on TV then Edgar will come home. As Vincent's progressively destructive behavior alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it's Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home.
