Russell Crowe took on the role of a Catholic priest in the 2023 horror flick "The Pope's Exorcist." Now, he's tackling a different challenge: portraying a troubled actor cast as a Catholic priest in a cursed horror film shoot. Things take a sinister turn when he finds himself becoming a part of the eerie proceedings.

Check out the official trailer for "The Exorcism," a new supernatural horror thriller set against a cursed film production. Crowe plays a veteran film actor with a history of addiction and personal demons. He is a last-minute replacement for an actor who mysteriously suffered an accident during the shoot. Crowe is tasked with playing a Catholic priest battling a malicious spirit. However, things take a turn when Crowe's character starts experiencing strange incidents on the set and ultimately falls prey to a powerful evil presence.

Ryan Simpkins, from the "Fear Street" trilogy, co-stars as Crowe's estranged daughter who is invited to join him during the shoot. Meanwhile, David Hyde Pierce, of "Frasier" fame, co-stars as a Father who is enlisted to help out with what appears to be a real case of demon possession.

Rounding out the cast are Chloe Bailey, Sam Worthington, Adam Goldberg, Samantha Mathis, and Adrian Pasdar.

The film is directed and co-written by Joshua John Miller, a former '80s child actor known for playing the vampire kid, Homer, in the cult 1987 horror thriller "Near Dark." Miller also co-wrote the horror slasher comedy "The Final Girls" with his writing partner M. A. Fortin. Notably, Miller is the son of actor/playwright Jason Miller, who is famous for playing Father Damien Karras in the classic 1973 horror film "The Exorcist," which is said to have been a cursed production with a number of reported bizarre occurrences, including injuries, deaths, and fires.

"The Exorcism" is set to open in theaters on June 7th.
