Andre Holland, of "Moonlight" fame, steps into the shoes of iconic Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton in this new Apple original miniseries. Here's the official trailer for "The Big Cigar."

Based on journalist Joshuah Bearman's 2012 Playboy article, "The Big Cigar: How a Hollywood Producer Smuggled Huey Newton to Cuba," this new limited series brings to life the astonishing true tale of how 1970s film producer Bert Schneider, famous for producing "Easy Rider," concocted a bold plan to sneak Huey P. Newton out of the U.S. and into Cuba amidst an FBI manhunt. Echoing the plot of "Argo," the scheme involved Newton assuming the guise of a production assistant on a movie named "The Big Cigar," supposedly scouting locations in Cuba.

Alessandro Nivola ("The Many Saints of Newark") portrays producer Bert Schneider in the miniseries. The cast also includes Tiffany Boone, Marc Menchaca, P. J. Byrne, and Moses Ingram.

The series is executive produced by television producer-writer Jim Hecht, known for co-creating the HBO basketball series "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty." The show is also executive produced by "Claws" showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois and "Argo" co-screenwriter Joshuah Bearman. Additionally, actor Don Cheadle is directing the first two episodes of the miniseries and is also one of the executive producers.

Mark your calendars for May 17th when "The Big Cigar" premieres exclusively on Apple TV Plus. The first two episodes will kick off the series, with subsequent episodes airing weekly.
