Netflix has released the official trailer for "Good Times," an animated reinterpretation of the classic 1970s sitcom produced by television icon Norman Lear (The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, and All in the Family). This new Netflix cartoon series, geared towards adults, revolves around an African American family, the Evans, facing financial challenges while residing in a low-income Chicago neighborhood.

Norman Lear, who sadly passed away in December at the age of 101, played an active role in developing this new "spiritual sequel," a modern-day animated revival of the original live-action series. The show focuses on the fourth generation of the Evans family, residing in apartment 17C of a Chicago housing project.

NBA star Stephen Curry joins "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane as an executive producer on the animated series, with television producer-writer Ranada Shepard taking on the role of showrunner.

Comedians J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) join the voice cast, portraying Reggie and Beverly, the heads of the Evans household. Former SNL cast member Jay Pharoah lends his voice to their teenage artist son, Junior, while Marsai Martin (Black-ish) voices their activist daughter, Grey. Slink Johnson (Black Jesus) voices the role of their drug-dealing infant son, Dalvin, and Rashida Olayiwola (Jury Duty), who is also a writer on the show, voices Beverly's enterprising best friend, Lashes by Lisa. Norman Lear makes a cameo appearance in the eighth episode, marking his final role before his passing in December 2023.

Staying true to the essence of the original sitcom, the animated version of "Good Times" will incorporate a laugh track and address contemporary issues surrounding the struggles of a financially challenged African American family. The adult cartoon is scheduled to premiere on April 12, exclusively on Netflix.
