Following its triumphant world premiere at SXSW this month, where director-star Dev Patel received a thunderous standing ovation, "Monkey Man" is poised to become the breakout action film of the year. If nothing else, it will certainly establish Dev Patel as a powerhouse talent, adept not only behind and in front of the camera but also at orchestrating adrenaline-pumping action scenes. With the film's release date drawing near, Universal has released an official final trailer for "Monkey Man," providing a thrilling glimpse of Patel in action. In this India-set film, the "Slumdog Millionaire" actor, also making his directorial debut, portrays a young underground fighter fueled by raw vengeance and anger. However, as he sets out on a quest for retribution, he carves a path of bloodshed and chaos, emerging as an avenging angel for the voiceless and powerless. His mission is to take down the corrupt leaders accountable for his mother's death and the ongoing exploitation of impoverished people in India.

"Monkey Man" is also co-written by Dev Patel, incorporating themes and elements loosely inspired by the Hindu mythology of Hanuman, a revered deity known for symbolizing devotion, strength, and bravery.

Filmmaker and comedian Jordan Peele ("Get Out," "Nope") serves as one of the producers on the film, working under his Monkeypaw production label. Peele played a pivotal role in securing the film's official theatrical release, as it was initially slated for Netflix. However, Peele was so impressed by the movie that he believed it deserved to be seen in theaters. He bought back the rights from Netflix and brought it to Universal. And the rest is history, as they say.

Co-starring Sharlto Copley ("District 9"), Sobhita Dhulipala ("Made in Heaven"), Pitobash ("Million Dollar Arm"), Vipin Sharma ("Hotel Mumbai"), Ashwini Kalsekar ("Ek Tha Hero"), Adithi Kalkunte ("Hotel Mumbai"), Sikandar Kher ("Aarya"), and Makarand Deshpande ("RRR"), "Monkey Man" arrives in theaters on April 5th.
