From the acclaimed documentarians behind the Sundance-winning political coming-of-age documentary "Boys State" comes a companion piece of sorts. Check out the official trailer for "Girls State," a new documentary offering a fly-on-the-wall perspective as it follows a group of young female high school students participating in an annual political program. This leadership program, with the participation of nearly every U.S. state (in this case, Missouri) and held every year, brings together students from diverse backgrounds to engage in a mock gubernatorial race, providing them with valuable insights into the workings of governance.

The film captures the journeys of several teenage female candidates, each employing unique campaigning styles and strategies, as they navigate political debates on issues relevant to their lives. Friendships are forged, and rivalries emerge as these young women vie for leadership roles. "Boys State," which earned an Emmy Award, followed the same annual political student program but focused on a class of male high school seniors from Austin, Texas.

Directed by documentarians Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss and executive produced by Davis Guggenheim, "Girls State" is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV Plus starting April 5th.
