Netflix has released the official trailer for "Ronja the Robber's Daughter," a brand-new Swedish fantasy series based on the timeless children's book by Astrid Lindgren, the acclaimed Swedish author known for "Pippi Longstocking."

This beloved tale has seen several adaptations over the years, including a Studio Ghibli anime series in 2014, a classic 1984 Swedish film, and a 1991 Danish musical stage production.

In this new Netflix adaptation, Swedish actress Kerstin Linden, from the Swedish series "The Crown Prince Who Disappeared (Kronprinsen som forsvann)," steps into the shoes of Ronja, a fiercely independent young girl. She is the daughter of a notorious robber, who defies tradition by befriending a rival clan's son. Together, they navigate the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and the feud between their families, discovering courage and unity amidst the untamed mystical forests of medieval Sweden.

Directed by television veteran Lisa James Larsson ("Fate: The Winx Saga," "Britannia") and written by Hans Rosenfeldt (the creator behind "The Bridge (Bron/Broen)"), this series promises an enchanting ride filled with bravery and rebellion. It will be released in two parts, with Part 1 (episodes 1 through 6) premiering worldwide on March 28th on Netflix, followed by Part 2 (episodes 7-12) later in 2024. In the meantime, watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
RONJA THE ROBBER'S DAUGHTER follows the adventures of a spirited and rebellious girl born into a gang of robbers in a medieval Scandinavian castle. As Ronja grows up, she discovers the magical, but dangerous forest with its strange and mysterious creatures. Yet she feels more at home in the forest than behind the walls of the huge castle. When Ronja meets the young boy Birk from a rival gang, it marks the beginning of a dark family feud and a forbidden friendship emerges, all while a notorious bailiff arrives to rid the forest of robbers once and for all.
