Who would've thought Dev Patel could kick butt? Check out the "Slumdog Millionaire" star flaunting his action chops as he takes on a swarm of armed adversaries in a cramped kitchen in the new trailer for the upcoming action-packed thriller "Monkey Man."

Produced by Jordan Peele under his Monkeypaw production banner, "Monkey Man" marks Dev Patel's directorial debut. Patel also stars in this revenge-driven action flick reminiscent of "John Wick," portraying a young man known simply as "the kid," navigating life in an underground fight club in India. Fueled by deep-rooted rage, the Kid embarks on a quest for vengeance against the corrupt figures accountable for his mother's demise and the ongoing exploitation of the impoverished and marginalized.

Loosely drawing inspiration from Hanuman, a revered deity in Hindu mythology symbolizing devotion, strength, and courage, the film also features Sharlto Copley ("District 9"), Sobhita Dhulipala ("Made in Heaven"), Pitobash ("Million Dollar Arm"), Vipin Sharma ("Hotel Mumbai"), Ashwini Kalsekar ("Ek Tha Hero"), Adithi Kalkunte ("Hotel Mumbai"), Sikandar Kher ("Aarya"), and Makarand Deshpande ("RRR").

Interestingly, "Monkey Man" was initially slated as a Netflix exclusive. However, after producer Jordan Peele caught wind of the film, he believed it warranted a theatrical release. As a result, Peele reclaimed the rights from Netflix, secured the film, and through his ongoing deal with Universal Pictures, is set to launch it in theaters on April 5th. "Monkey Man" will also be making its world premiere this week at the SXSW film festival, so brace yourself for the buzz to kick in soon.
