Recent Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo, of "Rustin" and "The Color Purple: Musical," further demonstrates his acting chops once again in a poignant prison drama centered on the transformative power of Shakespeare.

Check out the official trailer for "Sing Sing," an upcoming film inspired by true events based on a real-life rehabilitation program within a maximum-security prison. In this program, inmates form a theater troupe and engage in performances of Shakespearean and other stage plays as part of their journey towards redemption.

Domingo leads an impressive ensemble cast, joined by fellow Oscar-nominated actor Paul Raci from "Sound of Metal." In the film, Domingo portrays a long-serving convict who, while striving for parole and clemency, becomes the guiding force behind the prison theater troupe, where acting serves as a catalyst for personal growth and transformation.

Making his feature debut, Clarence "Divine Eye" Maclin portrays a character inspired by his own life experiences. Maclin, a former prisoner turned actor, brings authenticity to the film as it loosely mirrors his own journey within the prison arts program.

"Sing Sing" is directed and produced by Greg Kwedar, who previously directed the U.S.-Mexico border thriller "Transpecos." The film marks yet another collaboration between Kwedar and his writing and producing partner, filmmaker Clint Bentley. Together, they produced and wrote "Sing Sing," "Transpecos," and the critically acclaimed drama "Jockey," which Bentley directed and starred Clifton Collins Jr.

Premiering to acclaim at last year's TIFF and set to screen at this month's SXSW Film Festival, "Sing Sing" promises to be a thought-provoking cinematic experience, exploring themes of redemption and self-discovery. Look out for its theatrical release in July, courtesy of A24 Films.
