Although his stint on the hit show "Yellowstone" is winding down, Kevin Costner shows no signs of departing from the western genre entirely. In fact, his next project sees him embracing the genre even more deeply. In a bold move, Costner takes on the dual roles of star and director in a new epic two-part western saga set to hit theaters this summer. With each part scheduled to release months apart.

Check out the official trailer for Costner's latest sprawling western drama "Horizon: An American Saga," marking the Oscar-winner's fourth directorial effort, following "Open Range" (2003), "The Postman" (1997), and "Dances with Wolves" (1991).

Set against the backdrop of the pre- and post-Civil War era, "Horizon: An American Saga" follows the journey of westward expansion and settlement in the American frontier. Costner leads an exceptional ensemble cast, including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, and Will Patton, among others.

Originally conceived as a four-part television event, the project underwent a restructuring, now presented as two feature films set for a summer release. Filming spanned approximately eight months, with Costner's demanding schedule contributing to reported disputes with "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan -- ultimately resulting in Costner's unexpected departure from the series during Season Five.

Audiences can anticipate the premiere of the first chapter of "Horizon: An American Saga" on June 28th, followed by the release of Part Two on August 16th.
