Paramount has released the official trailer for the fifth and final season of "Star Trek: Discovery," chronicling the spacefaring exploits of Starfleet officer Michael Burnham, portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green, aboard the U.S.S. Discovery.

Originally conceived by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, "Discovery" marked a pioneering venture as one of the first original "Star Trek" series to premiere on streaming platforms, igniting a new era for the beloved franchise and paving the way for subsequent streaming hits like "Star Trek: Picard," "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," and "Star Trek: Lower Decks."

"Discovery" broke new ground by centering its narrative around a non-Captain protagonist, charting Burnham's journey from science first officer to assuming the mantle of Captain aboard the U.S.S. Discovery. Notably, Burnham shares a familial tie to the iconic character Spock, having been raised in Vulcan traditions as his adopted sister.

A standout character in the series is Saru, portrayed with remarkable depth by Doug Jones, who is known for his exceptional performances in full-body prosthetic makeup in films like "Hellboy" and "The Shape of Water." Saru is the first Kelpien alien to serve in Starfleet.

In its final fifth season, Captain Burnham and her U.S.S. Discovery crew embark on a quest across the cosmos to unravel a centuries-old enigma, leading them on a journey to unearth an ancient power deliberately concealed for centuries.

Returning alongside Martin-Green are Anthony Rapp as Paul Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Sylvia Tilly, Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber, David Ajala as Cleveland "Book" Booker, and Blu del Barrio as Adira Tal.
