Imagine the profound anguish and torment endured by a Jewish man tasked with forcibly tattooing identification numbers onto the arms of fellow prisoners during the Holocaust. This grim scenario forms the basis of the new Peacock miniseries "The Tattooist of Auschwitz," for which an official teaser trailer has been released.

Drawing from the deeply moving true story of Jewish Holocaust survivors Lali and Gita Sokolov, "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" is adapted from the international best-selling Holocaust novel of the same title by New Zealand author Heather Morris.

Legendary actor Harvey Keitel ("Reservoir Dogs" and "Bad Lieutenant") portrays an elderly Lali Sokolov, who recounts his life journey to author Heather Morris, portrayed by Melanie Lynskey from "Yellowjackets." Jonah Hauer-King, the English actor known for "The Little Mermaid," portrays the young Lali Sokolov as he confronts the horrors of the Holocaust in 1942, finding himself imprisoned at the Auschwitz concentration camp where he encounters Gita, played by Polish actress Anna Prochniak from "The Innocents," who later becomes his wife.

"The Tattooist of Auschwitz" is spearheaded by executive producer Claire Mundell ("The Cry") and written by Jacquelin Perske ("Love My Way") and Evan Placey ("Soulmates"). Tali Shalom-Ezer ("My Days of Mercy") directs the miniseries, which is scheduled for premiere on May 2nd on Peacock.

synopsis:
THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ is an event series inspired by the real-life story of Jewish Holocaust survivors Lali and Gita Sokolov. Lali (Jonah Hauer-King) arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1942, and shortly after arrival, he was made one of the tatowierer (tattooists), charged to ink identification numbers onto fellow prisoners' arms. One day, he meets Gita (Anna Prochniak) when tattooing her prisoner number on her arm. They experience love at first sight, and so begins a courageous, unforgettable, and human story. Under constant guard from a volatile Nazi SS officer Baretzki (Jonas Nay), Lali and Gita became determined to keep each other alive. Around 60 years later, Lali (Harvey Keitel) meets novice writer Heather Morris (Melanie Lynskey). Recently widowed, Lali finds the courage to tell the world his story. In recounting his story to Heather, Lali, in his 80s, faces the traumatic ghosts of his youth and relives his memories of falling in love in the most horrific of places.
