The Tony-winning musical "Wicked" is the latest Broadway sensation to transition from the stage to the screen. And now fans can get a first glimpse at the much-awaited film adaptation. This epic rendition featuring the acting and singing talents of Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo and pop star Ariana Grande.

Set in the enchanting land of Oz, "Wicked" serves as a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," drawing from L. Frank Baum's beloved novel and the iconic 1939 film. Cynthia Erivo steps into the role of Elphaba Thropp, destined to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, while Ariana Grande takes on the part of Glinda Upland, later known as the Good Witch of the North.

The film, based on Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman's award-winning stage musical and the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire, delves into the early lives of these two witches, charting the course of their unexpected friendship. This relationship not only shapes their future but also challenges the established notions of good and evil, set against the backdrop of events preceding Dorothy's arrival in Oz.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, acclaimed for his work on "In the Heights" and "Crazy Rich Asians," the film features an impressive cast. Jeff Goldblum co-stars as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz; Jonathan Bailey portrays Prince Fiyero Tigelaar; Ethan Slater appears as Munchkin, Boq; Marissa Bode plays Elphaba's sister, Nessarose Thropp, and Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh takes on the role of Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Shiz University.

In an interesting move, "Wicked" is reportedly split into two parts. Part One is scheduled to hit theaters on November 27th, with Part Two slated for a November 2025 release. In the meantime, you can check out the official first-look trailer, featured above.
