Just like a well-oiled machine, Illumination's "Despicable Me" franchise shows no signs of slowing down. As one of the highest grossing, if not the biggest, animated film franchises in history, Gru and his family are gearing up for another exciting adventure this summer in the much-anticipated "Despicable Me 4." This marks the sixth installment in the franchise, including the successful "Minions" spinoff blockbusters. Fans can now catch a sneak peek of Gru's latest adventure, as the first official trailer for "Despicable Me 4" has been released online.

In this new installment of the animated comedy series, Steve Carrell reprises his role as the voice of Gru, the former evil genius turned beloved family man. Kristen Wiig also returns to voice Lucy, Gru's better half. Gru, Lucy, and their daughters Margo (voiced by Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan) are trying to adjust to life with the newest addition to their family, baby Gru Jr. However, their lives take an unexpected turn when Gru discovers that his family is in peril, leading them to seek refuge in their "safe house." The threat comes from Gru's former associate, the nefarious Maxime Le Mal (voiced by Will Ferrell), who, after breaking out of prison, seeks vengeance for a past grievance.

Joining the voice cast is Sofia Vergara from "Modern Family," voicing Maxime Le Mal's femme fatale girlfriend, Valentina. The film also features voice performances from Joey King, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman, with Pierre Coffin returning to voice the Minions and Steve Coogan as Silas Ramsbottom.

Directed by franchise veteran Chris Renaud, with a script by Mike White ("White Lotus") and Ken Daurio (of the "Despicable Me" franchise), and co-direction by Patrick Delage ("Sing 2"), "Despicable Me 4" is set to hit theaters on July 3rd.

synopsis:
In the first Despicable Me movie in seven years, Gru, the world's favorite supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League-agent, returns for an exciting, bold new era of Minions mayhem in Illumination’s Despicable Me 4. Following the 2022 summer blockbuster phenomenon of Illumination's Minions: The Rise of Gru, which earned almost $1 billion worldwide, the biggest global animated franchise in history now begins a new chapter as Gru (Oscar nominee Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Oscar nominee Kristen Wiig) and their girls -- Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan) -- welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Emmy winner Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run.
