If you're in the mood for something that's dark, eerie, and unsettling, you might find "Stopmotion" to be just what you're looking for. The film won the Best Director award at last year's Fantastic Fest and has received strong positive critical reactions. For those who appreciate atmospheric and haunting horror thrillers, this movie could be worth considering. Here's the official trailer, but be ready for some spine-tingling moments.

"Stopmotion" features Irish actress Aisling Franciosi, you might have seen her in "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" and "The Nightingale." She portrays Ella Blake, a young stop-motion animator grappling with emotional turmoil following the loss of her overbearing mother. Feeling isolated and adrift, Ella embarks on a new project, creating a disturbing and grotesque puppet film. As she becomes deeply immersed and engrossed in her work, Ella finds herself blurring the lines between reality and her dark imagination, leading to doubts about her own sanity.

The film has been receiving positive attention after being showcased at several genre festivals last year. It is co-written and directed by British filmmaker Robert Morgan, an award-winning stop-motion animator known for his unsettling and creepy short films (which can be viewed on his YouTube channel, available here). "Stopmotion" marks Morgan's debut in feature-length narrative filmmaking. And from the looks of things, he might have a promising career in horror.

"Stopmotion" is set to hit theaters on February 23rd and will later exclusively premiere on the horror-centric streaming service Shudder on May 31st. Watch the trailer above for a glimpse into the eerie world of Robert Morgan's "Stopmotion."
