It's a tough act to follow Anthony Minghella's 1999 film adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's intricately woven psychological thriller, "The Talented Mr. Ripley." That movie was so particularly suspenseful that it continues to be a point of reference even today. Some have recently drawn comparisons between it and "Saltburn."

With that said, Netflix is set to release a new adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's twisty crime novel series, centered around the enigmatic grifter character Tom Ripley. This time, however, the role of Tom Ripley is being portrayed by acclaimed Irish actor Andrew Scott, who has recently garnered critical praises for his Oscar-worthy performance in "All of Us Strangers." Adding to the excitement, the cast includes Dakota Fanning and John Malkovich, all under the direction and writing expertise of Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Zaillian. It's safe to say that this looks pretty damn promising!

Take a gander at the first official teaser for this upcoming Netflix miniseries "Ripley." In this adaptation, Andrew Scott steps into the title role of Tom Ripley, a grifter in 1960s New York who finds himself entangled with a wealthy socialite named Dickie Greenleaf and his elite circle of friends while in Italy.

In this new rendition, Andrew Scott takes on the character originally played by Matt Damon in the 1999 film, while Johnny Flynn (known from "The Outfit" and "Emma.") assumes the role of Dickie Greenleaf, previously portrayed by Jude Law. Dakota Fanning steps into the role of Marge Sherwood, which was previously played by Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1999 movie.

The remainder of the cast for this upcoming miniseries includes Eliot Sumner and John Malkovich, who funnily enough portrayed an older Tom Ripley in the 2002 thriller "Ripley's Game."

"Ripley" hails from writer-director Steven Zaillian, perhaps best known for his work as the Oscar-winning screenwriter of films like "Schindler's List," "Awakenings," "Gangs of New York," "The Irishman." Zaillian also co-created of the award-winning HBO miniseries "The Night Of." Zaillian also holds credits for directing acclaimed dramas like "Searching for Bobby Fischer" and "A Civil Action." This miniseries marks Zaillian's return to directing since the 2006 misfire "All the King's Men."

"Ripley" is scheduled for its premiere on April 4th, exclusively on Netflix. You can catch a glimpse of what's in store by watching the teaser featured above.
