Back in 1982, Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, famous for classics like "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now," embarked on a deeply personal project called "One from the Heart." This romantic musical drama paid tribute to the classic Hollywood musicals and featured a cast including Teri Garr, Frederic Forrest, Raul Julia, Nastassja Kinski, and Harry Dean Stanton.

The film was notable for its technical achievements, including the pioneering use of video-editing techniques and intricately designed movie sets and stylized soundstages to create a dreamlike depiction of Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the production faced frustrating delays, production issues, and financial challenges. Coppola even invested his own money to complete the project. Despite his efforts, "One from the Heart" failed to recoup its costs and became both a box office disappointment and a critical flop. The financial strain from the film's production led to the bankruptcy of Zoetrope Studios, Coppola's production company, in 1983.

Nevertheless, more than four decades later, "One from the Heart" has carved out a niche as a cult classic, attracting fans who appreciate its artistic ambition. The film is also a prime example of Coppola's dedication to his creative vision, even in the face of personal and financial consequences.

"One from the Heart" tells a dream-like story about a couple's tumultuous relationship on their 5th-anniversary night. Their individual journeys take them through the vibrant and surreal world of Las Vegas, where they must rediscover their love and connection amidst the neon lights and eccentric characters.

The film has recently undergone a 4K restoration titled "One from the Heart: Reprise," featuring an extra six minutes of footage that received the director's approval.

Coppola expressed his pride in this new, updated version, stating, "I've always loved 'One from the Heart,' despite the disruption it caused in my dreams for American Zoetrope. However, there is magic in cinema and while preparing this film for 4K, it was apparent I could refine the story. This new version is an improvement in many ways and I am proud of what was achieved with 'One from the Heart: Reprise'."

"One from the Heart: Reprise" is scheduled for release in the UK on March 4th in both 4K and Blu-ray formats, via Studio Canal. The film, however, has opened in select U.S. theaters in New York and Los Angeles on January 19th through Jan. 25th, with other cities to follow in Feb., via Rialto Pictures.
