It's one of the most pleasantly unexpected successes to have emerged in recent months. "Godzilla Minus One" is not only regarded as one of the standout films of 2023 but has also achieved sleeper hit success last month in U.S. theaters, a noteworthy accomplishment for a foreign import. Now, it appears that the makers of the film have devised a new strategy to lure U.S. viewers back to theaters for a repeat viewing. The film will be screened in a brand-new black-and-white format, recreating the classic "Godzilla" aesthetic for an added touch of 1950s and 60s nostalgia.

Check out the new official trailer for "Godzilla Minus One (Minus Color)," a new black-and-white version of the highly acclaimed kaiju film that has found its place on many critics' top ten best film lists from last year.

Set against the backdrop of post-war Japan, the film takes a more dramatic and humanistic approach, delving into the lives of various characters affected by the aftermath of Godzilla's destruction. The cast includes Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki.

"Godzilla Minus One" joins the ever-expanding kaiju film series as the latest addition. It comes from the well-known Japanese film studio, TOHO Studios, famous for hits like "Godzilla 2000," "Godzilla Final Wars," "Attack on Titan," "Shin Ultraman," and "Shin Godzilla."

The movie is both written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, an acclaimed Japanese filmmaker and visual effects artist known for his past works such as "Returner," "Always: Sunset on Third Street," "Space Battleship Yamato," and "Stand by Me Doraemon." Yamazaki is also known for helming the popular manga adaptation "Parasyte" and its sequel.

"Godzilla Minus One" is currently playing in theaters across the U.S. But, "Godzilla Minus One (Minus Color)," the brand-new black-and-white edition, is set to make its nationwide theater debut for a limited one-week run starting on January 26th. Tickets are available for purchase now.
