Academy Award winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) and Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter) get to share the screen together as adversaries in this new British period comedy based on an "outrageous" true story.

Check out the new international trailer for "Wicked Little Letters," in which Colman plays a deeply conservative woman named Edith Swan living in a quaint 1920s English coastal town. Her neighbor, however, is quite different from her conservative values. Rose Gooding (played by Buckley) is a rowdy Irish migrant who loves to speak her mind. However, Edith and Rose become embroiled in a heated argument over an anonymous letter filled with profanities and expletives. Rose, despite her own penchant for swearing, denies writing the letter. When more such letters appear around town, it stirs up a passionate reaction among the local women. Some are inspired to take action, while others are simply eager to quell the ensuing chaos.

The film is directed by Thea Sharrock (Me Before You, The One and Only Ivan) and written by British comedian Jonny Sweet. The cast also includes Anjana Vasan, Malachi Kirby, Eileen Atkins, Timothy Spall, and Gemma Jones.

"Wicked Little Letters" is set to open in the United Kingdom on February 23rd. As of yet, a U.S. release date has not been determined.

synopsis:
A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a dark and absurd scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger than fiction true story, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town's women -- led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) -- begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit after all.
