How far will journalists go to secure a sensational story? That's the question raised in the upcoming journalistic drama "Cold Copy," starring Tracee Ellis Ross, of "Black-ish" fame and Bel Powley, from "The King of Staten Island," "A Small Light." The film delves into the realm of sensationalism in journalism, where reporters push boundaries and make ethically questionable decisions in their pursuit of a "hot" story. Written and directed by Roxine Helberg in her feature directorial debut, "Cold Copy" centers around a young journalism student played by Bel Powley. She embarks on a school assignment to uncover a major story, driven by a strong desire to impress her professor and mentor, a well-known news reporter portrayed by Tracee Ellis Ross. However, when the aspiring journalist stumbles upon a juicy story on her own, she is faced with ethical and moral dilemmas, causing her to question whether manipulation is justified in her pursuit of the truth. In the film, Jacob Tremblay, from "Room" and "Good Boys," shares the screen as a co-star. He plays a lonely teenager who becomes the focal point of a potential news story when it is revealed that he is the son of a children's book author who has recently died under suspicious circumstances. "Cold Copy," which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, is set to be released in theaters and digitally on January 26th. Watch the trailer above.
