Nearly four decades ago, a gathering of music's most notable stars came together to perform a song in support of African famine relief. Organizing this extraordinary event was no small feat. And it seems these famous musicians had to do something that wasn't entirely customary for them - they had to check their egos at the door.

Take a look at the official trailer for "The Greatest Night in Pop," an upcoming Netflix original documentary that delves into the events surrounding the studio recording of the 1985 chart-topping hit "We Are the World." This charity single, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. It went on to become the eighth best-selling physical single of all time, selling a remarkable 20 million copies.

Directed by Bao Nguyen and produced by Julia Nottingham, the same team that brought us the acclaimed Bruce Lee documentary "Be Water," the film meticulously recounts the early planning phases, including the writing sessions with Richie and Jackson. It also provides an inside glimpse into the renowned Henson Studios where "We Are the World" was recorded. Featuring never-before-seen footage and new interviews with some of the individuals and pop icons who participated in the recording, the documentary provides an insider's perspective on the colossal endeavor to assemble the world's most impressive supergroup.

"The Greatest Night in Pop" is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on January 29th.
