It's a satirical film that is generating significant Oscar buzz at the moment! And there's a chance that Jeffrey Wright -- or even Sterling K. Brown, for that matter -- could secure an Oscar nomination for their roles.

Check out the newest official trailer for "American Fiction," a satirical dramedy starring Jeffrey Wright in the role of a struggling college-educated novelist. In a bold attempt to critique the literary establishment, he pens an intentionally outrageous "black" novel filled with offensive stereotypes and worn-out cliches. To his astonishment, the book becomes a literary sensation, propelling him to fame as the next prominent "black voice" in the industry. Faced with a moral quandary, he must choose between revealing his work as a satire or continuing to embrace the deception and becoming the very thing he once criticized -- a sellout and a hypocrite.

This film marks the directorial debut of the acclaimed writer Cord Jefferson, known for his writing contributions to shows like HBO's "Watchmen," NBC's "The Good Place," and "The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore."

Sterling K. Brown co-stars in the movie as Jeffrey Wright's plain-spoken brother, and the ensemble cast also includes Tracee Ellis Ross, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody, Keith David, and Issa Rae.

Adapted from the 2001 book "Erasure" by Professor Percival Everett, "American Fiction" is set to hit theaters this week on December 15th.

synopsis:
AMERICAN FICTION is Cord Jefferson's hilarious directorial debut, which confronts our culture's obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who's fed up with the establishment profiting from "Black" entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish "Black" book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.
