Check out the official trailer for "The American Society of Magical Negroes," a new satirical comedy starring Justice Smith (from "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves") and comedy legend David Alan Grier (In Living Color).

The film, written and directed by comedian Kobi Libii (from Comedy Central's "The Opposition with Jordan Klepper"), playfully toys with the "Magical Negro" trope, a recurring theme where a Black character, often possessing supernatural abilities, is brought into a story solely to assist white protagonists.

Justice Smith takes on the role of Aren, a young man who finds himself joining a clandestine group of magical Black people with a unique mission: to make the lives of white people more convenient. However, things take a twist when Aren is tasked with assisting a nerdy white guy, portrayed by comedian Drew Tarver. Instead of sticking to the rules, Aren ends up falling head over heels for a white co-worker, played by An-Li Bogan, creating a complicated situation.

David Alan Grier steps into the role of Justice Smith's supervisor, the one who guides him through the dos and don'ts of being a member of "The American Society of Magical Negroes."

Co-starring Michaela Watkins, Aisha Hinds, Tim Baltz, Drew Tarver, An-Li Bogan, with Rupert Friend, and Nicole Byer, "The American Society of Magical Negroes" is set to premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival before its theatrical release on March 22nd.
