Coming to Netflix this week is the highly anticipated mystery thriller "Leave The World Behind," featuring Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke as a couple thrust into a harrowing situation amid a nationwide power outage. Mahershala Ali, Myha'la Herrold, and Kevin Bacon also co-star.

The film is an adaptation of Rumaan Alam's critically acclaimed 2020 novel of the same name. It presents a chilling scenario in which the entire United States grapples with a massive cyberattack-induced nationwide power outage. At the center of this mystery are Roberts and Hawke, playing a married couple on a family vacation in a rental house when two enigmatic strangers (portrayed by Mahershala Ali and Myha'la) unexpectedly appear at their doorstep. These visitors bring an unsettling message of an imminent nationwide blackout triggered by an unforeseen cyberattack, plunging society into chaos. Now, the family must navigate a world turned upside down while grappling with the challenge of discerning whom to trust.

"Leave the World Behind" is both written and directed by Sam Esmail, the acclaimed creator of the conspiracy hacker thriller series "Mr. Robot." Esmail also played a pivotal role in Amazon's psychological thriller anthology series "Homecoming," where he directed the entire first season, with Julia Roberts in the lead role.
