As it turns out, we had a very limited understanding of this world we known as the MonsterVerse. And if you believed that Kong and Godzilla were the sole colossal monsters we had to be concerned about, you're in for a surprise! A new empire of giant apes is emerging! And the only thing preventing complete human annihilation is an unlikely alliance between two of cinema's most iconic monsters -- King Kong and Godzilla!

Feast your eyes on the newly-released first official trailer for the highly anticipated monster movie sequel, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." This film marks the seventh installment and the fifth in Legendary Pictures' ever-expanding "MonsterVerse" franchise, which now includes the currently airing Apple original series, "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters."

The upcoming movie serves as a direct sequel to 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" and features the return of Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes, and Kaylee Hottle as Jia. Joining the cast is Dan Stevens, reuniting with director Adam Wingard, who previously collaborated with Stevens on the 2014 action thriller "The Guest."

Wingard returns for a second time to the franchise, working alongside his frequent screenwriting partner Simon Barrett ("You're Next"). They co-wrote the story with veteran screenwriter Terry Rossio (known for "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Godzilla vs. Kong"), while Wingard, Barrett, Rossio, and writer Jeremy Slater (creator of the MCU's "Moon Knight" series) jointly wrote the screenplay. It's worth noting that the iconic Godzilla character is owned and created by TOHO Co., Ltd. Currently, TOHO has released a new Japanese Godzilla film titled "Godzilla Minus One," out now in US theaters.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is scheduled to hit theaters next year, commencing on March 29, 2024, promising an explosive clash of titans that fans of the MonsterVerse won't want to miss.
