Sofia Vergara's portrayal in the upcoming Netflix miniseries is a striking departure from her usual roles. The "Modern Family" star undergoes a significant transformation to bring to life a real-life Colombian drug queen. This miniseries, brought to us by the creators of "Narcos" and "Narcos: Mexico," introduces "Griselda," a six-episode production.

In this new Netflix original series, Vergara steps into the shoes of Griselda Blanco, a cunning and ambitious Colombian businesswoman and a devoted mother who masterminded one of history's most profitable cartels. Spanning several decades, the drama explores Griselda's ascent to power and her eventual downfall. During the 1970s and 80s, she gained infamy as a prominent cocaine trafficker for the Medellin cartel, earning nicknames such as "the Black Widow" and "Cocaine Godmother."

The limited series, consisting of eight episodes, is created by "Narcos" producers Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard while Sofia Vergara serves as an executive producer. It is directed entirely by Andres Baiz, a television director known for his work on "Narcos" and "Narcos: Mexico," as well as "The Sandman."

Joining Sofia Vergara in this new Netflix production are actors Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappan, Martin Rodriguez, Juliana Aiden Martinez, and Vanessa Ferlito.

Mark your calendars, as "Griselda" is set to make its debut on Netflix early next year, starting on January 25th. Watch the official full-length trailer, above.
