If you're a fan of the 1993 survival film "Alive," starring Ethan Hawke, Vincent Spano, and Josh Hamilton, which drew inspiration from the gripping true story of a Uruguayan rugby team's survival following a harrowing 1972 plane crash in the Andes mountains, but you've always yearned for a more historically accurate portrayal with less Hollywood gloss, then you're in for a real treat! The acclaimed Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona has joined forces with Netflix to present a brand-new cinematic interpretation of those terrifying events. This time, the film features Spanish-speaking Uruguayan and Spanish actors, truly embodying the real individuals who endured this tragic ordeal.

Be sure to check out the official full-length trailer for "Society of the Snow," Netflix's upcoming Spanish-language plane crash survival thriller based on the chilling true story known as the Uruguayan Andes flight disaster.

With a strong ensemble cast that includes Enzo Vogrincic, Matias Recalt, Agustin Pardella, Esteban Kukuriczka, and Tomas Wolf, the film vividly reimagines the harrowing events of 1972 when a Uruguayan rugby team's plane crashed in the frigid Andes mountains. Stranded in sub-zero temperatures and confronted with the brutal challenges of survival in a harsh environment, the survivors resorted to extreme measures, including consuming the flesh of deceased passengers.

Director J.A. Bayona is no stranger to tackling such intense subject matter, having successfully transformed the true story of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami into a gripping family survival drama, "The Impossible," starring Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and the then-unknown Tom Holland. Bayona is also celebrated for his work on hit films like "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," "A Monster Calls," and "The Orphanage."

"Society of the Snow" has recently been chosen as Spain's submission for the 2024 Oscars. The film is set to premiere in select theaters in December before arriving on Netflix on January 4th.
