Children often create imaginary friends as part of their innocent playtime. But what if those imaginary friends weren't imaginary at all? And what if they turned out to be far from friendly? Innocence takes on a whole new darker meaning in that case.

Check out the official trailer for "Imaginary," the upcoming horror film from Blumhouse, the production company behind this year's horror hits like "Five Nights at Freddy's" and "M3gan."

The movie stars DeWanda Wise ("Jurassic World Dominion"), Pyper Braun ("Country Comfort"), Taegan Burns ("I Can Only Imagine"), and Tom Payne ("The Walking Dead"). It revolves around a family in which the youngest child, a girl named Alice, stumbles upon an eerie old teddy bear in the basement. This discovery sets off a series of seemingly innocent childhood games, as Alice collects items around the house for her new "imaginary" friend -- the teddy bear. However, when Alice starts harming herself, claiming that the teddy bear instructed her to do so, it becomes evident that her new "imaginary" friend may not be as benevolent as it appears.

The film also features guest appearances by Veronica Falcon ("Ozark," "Queen of the South") and Betty Buckley ("Split," "Eight Is Enough").

Directed and co-written by Jeff Wadlow, known for his work on thrillers like "Truth or Dare," "Fantasy Island," and "Cry Wolf," "Imaginary" is set to hit theaters on March 8th, 2024.

synopsis:
From Blumhouse, the genre-defining masterminds behind FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S and M3GAN, comes an original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends -- and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath? When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice's behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.
