Filmmaker Zack Snyder has once again teamed up with Netflix to bring audiences a grand science-fiction spectacle, transporting them to futuristic galaxies where a rebellion is brewing against a tyrannical empire. If the premise sounds reminiscent of "Star Wars," it's not a coincidence. Zack Snyder has been rumored to have wanted to create his own "Star Wars" film, and "Rebel Moon" seems to be his take on that idea.
The official full-length trailer for Snyder's "Rebel Moon" has been released, featuring Algerian actress Sofia Boutella in the lead role of Kora. Kora is a mysterious figure living in a tranquil village on the fringes of the galaxy. However, the peace of her village is shattered when the army of a ruthless ruler invades, determined to quash a prophesied uprising. Kora emerges as a symbol of resistance, rallying a diverse group of warriors and rebels from various backgrounds who are united by their shared quest for redemption and vengeance.
In addition to Boutella, the ensemble cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Jena Malone, and Doona Bae. Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins also makes a guest appearance in the film as the voice of a battle robot.
"Rebel Moon" marks Snyder's second collaboration with Netflix, following his zombie-action film "Army of the Dead." The screenplay for "Rebel Moon" was co-written by Snyder, Shay Hatten ("Army of the Dead" and "John Wick: Chapter 4"), and Kurt Johnstad ("Atomic Blonde"). Plans for sequels are already in motion, with Netflix and Snyder envisioning the film as the potential start of a franchise.
Set to debut exclusively on Netflix on December 22nd, "Rebel Moon (Part 1 - A Child of Fire)" is expected to be a significant addition to the streaming platform's original content lineup. Additionally, the sequel, "Rebel Moon: Part 2 - The Scargiver," is already scheduled to premiere on Netflix in early 2024, specifically on April 19, 2024.
