Hulu has released the first official teaser trailer for "The Artful Dodger," an upcoming limited series that reimagines Charles Dickens' classic literary character, Jack Dawkins, also known as the Artful Dodger. In this adaptation, Jack is portrayed as a young man living in 1850s Australia, where he's building a promising career as a surgeon.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster, known for co-starring in the popular Netflix miniseries "The Queen's Gambit," takes on the lead role of Jack Dawkins. As a young physician in Australia during the era of British colonization, Jack was once a master pickpocket bearing the moniker the Artful Dodger. However, his hidden past comes back to haunt him as he strives to establish a respectable career as a surgeon, thanks to his exceptional skilled hands.

The series also stars acclaimed English character actor David Thewlis as Fagin, the infamous ringleader from Jack's youth who resurfaces to threaten Jack's adult life and career. Additionally, Australian actress Maia Mitchell, known for her roles in "The Fosters" and "Good Trouble," takes on the role of Lady Belle, the Governor's daughter who aspires to become the colony's first female surgeon and becomes Jack's closest confidant.

"The Artful Dodger" is created, executive produced, and written by James McNamara, David Maher, and David Taylor. The series is set to premiere on Hulu starting on November 29th.

synopsis:
THE ARTFUL DODGER explores the adult double life of Charles Dickens' famous prince of thieves, Jack Dawkins aka The Artful Dodger, whose fast pickpocketing fingers have turned into the skilled hands of a surgeon. Set in 1850s Australia, in the lively colony of Port Victory, Dodger's past returns to haunt him with the arrival of Fagin, luring him back into a world of crime. A greater threat -- to Dodger's heart -- is Lady Belle, the Governor's daughter, determined to become the colony's first female surgeon. From heists to life-and-death surgeries to the harsh realities of the criminal world mingling with the middle ground and gentry, this is a tale of reinvention, betrayal, redemption, and love with a twist.
