In December, DC will once again have the chance to offer moviegoers a brand-new installment in their continually evolving superhero cinematic universe. With fingers crossed, we hope this one will live up to expectations, if not exceed them. At the very least, it is expected to make a huge splash, quite literally.

Check out the first official teaser footage from "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," the eagerly awaited follow-up to the DC comic book sensation, in which Jason Momoa is back as the titular superhero.

In the upcoming film, again directed by James Wan, Arthur Curry (Momoa), now the King of Atlantis, is navigating the challenges of his newfound royal life while embracing fatherhood. But it wouldn't be an Aquaman adventure without a formidable villain. Enter mercenary pirate Black Manta, portrayed once again by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who returns with a sinister agenda that threatens to upend everything.

In the face of such peril, Arthur must turn to an unlikely source for help -- his incarcerated half-brother and former rival, Orm (again played by Patrick Wilson). These estranged brothers must put aside old rivalries and form an unlikely alliance, all in the name of safeguarding their kingdom and protecting Aquaman's family.

The upcoming film also brings back Amber Heard as Queen Mera, Nicole Kidman as Arthur's mother, Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Arthur's father, Tom Curry, and Dolph Lundgren as Mera's father, King Nereus.

"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is set to hit theaters on December 20th, just in time for the holiday season. But before that, get ready for the full trailer dropping this week, which is sure to stoke the excitement even further.

Having failed to defeat Aquaman (Momoa) the first time, Black Manta (Abdul-Mateen), still driven by the need to avenge his father's death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm (Wilson), the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman's family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
