Building upon his established track record of portraying hard-boiled tough guys, Clive Owen takes on the role of the legendary gumshoe Sam Spade in this upcoming detective miniseries. In this new interpretation, however, Spade has retired and currently calls France his home.

Check out the first official teaser for "Monsieur Spade," the new six-episode detective series directed and co-written by Scott Frank, the Emmy-winning creator behind the Netflix hits "The Queen's Gambit" and "Godless."

The AMC limited series, which also boasts Emmy-winning executive producer and co-writer Tom Fontana (known for his work on "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Copper"), envisions the later years of Sam Spade, the iconic fictional detective from Dashiell Hammett's timeless crime story, "The Maltese Falcon." Humphrey Bogart famously brought this character to life in the 1941 film adaptation.

In this new rendition, it's 1963, shortly after the conclusion of the Algerian War. Sam Spade, now retired, is aiming to spend his twilight years peacefully in a small South of France villa. However, his retirement plans are abruptly disrupted when he is hired to investigate a gruesome murder in France.

In addition to Owen, the cast features Rebecca Root, Oscar Lesage, Cara Bossom, Ines Melab, and Denis Menochet.

"Monsieur Spade" is set to make its debut in early 2024 on AMC and its streaming platform, AMC Plus. While the premiere date is still some time away, the network has offered an early glimpse of the series with a teaser, which you can watch above.
