Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick play two backpackers who venture to Australia for some fun, only to find themselves in a perilous situation in this new tightly wound thriller, for which an official trailer has been released.

"The Royal Hotel" is the latest film from Australian filmmaker Kitty Green, known for her acclaimed slow-burning drama "The Assistant," which was inspired by the Weinstein scandal and also starred "Ozark" Emmy-winner Julia Garner.

In Green's new film, Garner and Jessica Henwick (from "Glass Onion") portray Hanna and Liv, best friends who impulsively decide to backpack to a remote part of Australia. However, their adventure takes a dangerous turn when they run out of money and are forced to take low-paying jobs as bartenders in a local drinking establishment in an isolated Outback mining town. Their new jobs bring them face-to-face with unruly locals who harass and threaten them, leading to a tense and potentially deadly situation.

The film also features veteran Australian actor Hugo Weaving, Toby Wallace and Ursula Yovich in the cast.

"The Royal Hotel" recently had its world premiere this month at the Telluride Film Festival, and it's set to be released in U.S. theaters by Neon Films, the distributor behind acclaimed movies like "Parasite." Although an official release date has not been announced, the trailer suggests an intense and suspenseful experience.

synopsis:
Americans Hanna (Julia Garner) and Liv (Jessica Henwick) are best friends backpacking in Australia. After they run out of money, Liv, looking for an adventure, convinces Hanna to take a temporary live-in job behind the bar of a pub called "The Roval Hotel" in a remote Outback mining town. Bar owner Billy and a host of locals give the girls a riotous introduction to Down Under drinking culture but soon Hanna and Liv find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that grows rapidly out of their control.
