Acclaimed actor David Oyelowo, known for his powerful portrayal of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. in "Selma," takes on another historical figure in his upcoming television drama. This time, he delves further back in time to portray legendary lawman Bass Reeves.

"Lawmen: Bass Reeves" is a new Paramount Plus original series from executive producer Taylor Sheridan, the creator of hit series like "Yellowstone" and "1883." The western series dramatizes the untold true story of Bass Reeves, one of the most legendary lawmen in the Old West. Reeves, a former slave turned American law enforcement official, was among the first black deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River. His territory primarily covered Arkansas and the Oklahoma Territory, where he arrested over 3,000 outlaws during his career.

The series also delves into the emotional and spiritual toll that Reeves's profession took on him and his family, as he was both a professional lawman and often perceived as an outlaw.

The series boasts an impressive cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Forrest Goodluck, Lauren E. Banks, Barry Pepper, Grantham Coleman, Demi Singleton, Garrett Hedlund, and Donald Sutherland.

"Lawmen: Bass Reeves," created by Chad Feehan (known for "Banshee" and "Rectify"), is set to premiere on Sunday, November 5th, exclusively on Paramount Plus. Check out the newly-released official teaser trailer, above.
