It's been half a century since the iconic horror film "The Exorcist" first terrified audiences. Now, the masterminds behind the recent "Halloween" film trilogy and Blumhouse Studios are teaming up to resurrect this legendary franchise, even bringing back the esteemed Ellen Burstyn.

Check out a brand-new official trailer for "The Exorcist: Believer," the latest chapter in the "Exorcist" saga, a collaboration between Blumhouse and the creative forces behind the new "Halloween" trilogy.

"The Exorcist: Believer" picks up as a direct sequel to the original 1973 movie. But this time, five decades have passed, and a widowed father, played by "Hamilton" star Leslie Odom Jr., is raising his teenage daughter, portrayed by Lidya Jewett. When his daughter vanishes mysteriously in the woods and returns possessed, alongside another young girl, the desperate father turns to the one person who understands such terrors: Chris MacNeil, played by the iconic Ellen Burstyn, reprising her role from the original film after 50 years.

Built on characters crafted by the original author, William Peter Blatty, "The Exorcist: Believer" is helmed by David Gordon Green, the director behind the new "Halloween" trilogy. The screenplay comes from Peter Sattler (known for "Camp X-Ray") and Gordon Green, drawing from a story by Scott Teems (of "Halloween Kills"), Danny McBride (part of the Halloween trilogy), and Gordon Green.

The supporting cast is equally impressive, with Emmy-winner Ann Dowd, Grammy-winner Jennifer Nettles, Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz, and newcomer Olivia Marcum.

Get ready for a fresh wave of terror as "The Exorcist" series rises from its haunted history to captivate a new generation of horror enthusiasts. "The Exorcist: Believer" is set to haunt theaters on October 13th, fittingly a date of Friday the 13th.
