In 1972, a Uruguayan rugby team endured unrelenting misery and emerged as survivors against all odds after a harrowing plane crash. They were stuck in bone-freezing conditions and dealt with limited resources, resorting to take unthinkable actions to ensure their survival. And it seems the director behind "The Impossible" and "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" has turned this remarkable survival tale into a new Netflix original film.

Check out the first official teaser for the forthcoming Spanish-language survival thriller "Society of the Snow," which is based on a true story known as the Uruguayan Andes flight disaster.

The film depicts the harrowing events of 1972 when a Uruguayan rugby team's plane crashed into the snowy Andes mountains. The survivors of the crash were faced with extremely cold temperatures and the challenge of staying alive in a harsh environment. In order to survive, they were forced to resort to desperate measures, including eating the flesh of deceased passengers.

The film is directed by J.A. Bayona, the highly acclaimed Spanish filmmaker known for his work on films like "The Impossible," which was based on the true story of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Bayona has also directed other notable movies like "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," "A Monster Calls," and "The Orphanage."

The cast of "Society of the Snow" includes Enzo Vogrincic, Matias Recalt, Agustin Pardella, Esteban Kukuriczka, and Tomas Wolf.

The teaser suggests that the film will delve into the gripping and tragic story of survival, depicting the physical and emotional struggles of the survivors in the face of extreme circumstances. The same true story was previously adapted into the 1993 English-language Hollywood film "Alive."

"Society of the Snow" is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will later be available on Netflix. Watch the teaser, above.
