Two grieving women embark on a dark journey of secrets and forbidden science in the new horror-tinged thriller "Birth/Rebirth," starring Marin Ireland (from "Homeland") and Judy Reyes (from "Scrubs").

Taking inspiration from Mary Shelley's classic tale, Frankenstein, "Birth/Rebirth" offers a contemporary twist on the pursuit of playing god and the haunting consequences that follow.

Marin Ireland stars as Rose, a socially reclusive pathologist obsessed with reanimating the dead, while Judy Reyes plays Celie, a devoted maternity nurse devastated by the loss of her daughter. The two women's lives intersect in the aftermath of a tragic event. United by grief, they delve into a harrowing descent into darkness, confronting their deepest fears and pushing the limits of their loyalty. Along their treacherous path, they must decide how far they are willing to go to protect their most guarded secrets before it's too late.

Co-starring A.J. Lister, Breeda Wool, and LaChanze, "Birth/Rebirth" marks the feature film debut of New York-based filmmaker Laura Moss, known for their award-winning short "Fry Day," which is currently featured on the Criterion Channel. Moss co-wrote the screenplay for "Birth/Rebirth" alongside Brendan J. O'Brien, co-writer of "Fry Day."

IFC Films and Shudder have acquired "Birth/Rebirth," with a theatrical release scheduled for August 18th. The film is also expected to be exclusively available for streaming on Shudder at a later date.

synopsis:
Rose (Marin Ireland) is a pathologist who prefers working with corpses over social interaction. She also has an obsession -- the reanimation of the dead. Celie (Judy Reyes) is a maternity nurse who has built her life around her bouncy, chatterbox six-year-old daughter, Lila (A.J. Lister). When one tragic night, Lila suddenly falls ill and dies, the two women's worlds crash into each other. They embark on a dark path of no return where they will be forced to confront how far they are willing to go to protect what they hold most dear.
