Check out the official trailer for the new '90s smartphone biopic "BlackBerry," starring This Is the End's Jay Baruchel and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Glenn Howerton.

In this darkly comedic biographical Canadian film based on the book "Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry" by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff, Baruchel portrays Mike Lazaridis, the real-life computer engineer who ended up creating the world's first smartphone. It was a clunky handheld mobile phone device known for its text messaging capabilities. And it was called the BlackBerry, and it became a highly sought-after smartphone for wall streeters and other business types during the 1990s.

Howerton portrays Jim Balsillie, the tech businessman who, while running the sales and finances, assisted in founding BlackBerry and first made it available to the consumer market.

While incorporating a '90s videotape aesthetic, the film is directed and co-written by cult Canadian filmmaker Matt Johnson (The Dirties, Operation Avalanche) who also co-stars as BlackBerry co-founder Douglas Fregin.

Co-starring Saul Rubinek, Cary Elwes, Rich Sommer, Michael Ironside, and Martin Donovan, "BlackBerry" is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 12th.
