The official trailer has been released for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," the wildly inventive, colorfully thrilling, and eagerly awaited sequel to Sony and Marvel's Oscar-winning animated blockbuster from producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The animated film continues the adventures of Miles Morales, a Brooklyn teenager who assumes the crime-fighting superhero role of Spider-man after being bitten by a genetically engineered spider. Miles is again voiced by Shameik Moore (Dope).

And while the first film introduced the concept of the "spider multiverse" where different variations of Spider-men and Spider-women from other dimensions land themselves into Miles' world, the upcoming sequel will see Miles reuniting with Gwen Stacy for another superhero mission. And this time, Miles will be crossing into the multiple dimensions of the spider-verse, encountering a multitude of Spider-people -- some good and some bad.

In addition to Shameik Moore, the voice cast includes Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Woman; Issa Rae as Jessica Drew aka another Spider-Woman, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker aka Spider-Man and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara aka another Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Velez have also returned to voice Miles' parents Jefferson Davis and Rio Morales.

Executive produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the upcoming film is directed by animator Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender), screenwriter Kemp Powers (Soul, One Night in Miami), and Justin K. Thompson.

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is due to open in theaters on June 2, 2023. There's also a third film "Beyond the Spider-Verse" that's currently in production, which is set to be released in early 2024.
