Inspired by the British folk horror films of the 1960s and '70s, "Enys Men" is a grungy and grainy psychedelic horror thriller with shades of "The Wicker Man," which takes place on a remote island off the British coast about a 1970s wildlife volunteer who descends into a metaphysical fever-dream, causing her to question what is real and what is a nightmare.

Starring Mary Woodvine, Edward Rowe, Flo Crowe, and John Woodvine, the film was shot on a 16mm color negative using a 1970's clockwork Bolex camera and post-sync sound, which essentially reproduced the 1970s aesthetic. So, if you didn't know, you would think this was a lost movie made in the 1970s.

"Enys Men" hails from English-Cornish writer-director-cinematographer-editor Mark Jenkin, who previously made the 2019 experimental black-and-white Cornish fisherman drama "Bait."

Premiering to solid reviews earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, "Enys Men" will be coming soon, via Neon Films. Watch the official trailer, above.

synopsis:
A wildlife volunteer on an uninhabited island off the British coast descends into a terrifying madness that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare. Evoking the feeling of discovering a reel of never-before-seen celluloid unspooling in a haunted movie palace, this provocative and masterful vision of horror asserts Mark Jenkin as one of the U.K.'s most exciting and singular filmmakers.
