Go behind the scenes of George Miller's latest film "Three Thousand Years of Longing," starring Tilda Swinton as an academic scholar who accidentally unleashes an ancient magical Djinn, played by Idris Elba.

The fantasy-tinged drama is based on "The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye," the title story in the 1994 collection of mythical short stories by British novelist A. S. Byatt. The "Mad Max" director also co-wrote the adapted screenplay with his daughter, Augusta Gore.

In the film, Swinton stars as an ordinary academic scholar who, while traveling to Istanbul, discovers an antique genie bottle. While in her hotel room, she opens the bottle and releases an ancient magical Djinn, played by Elba. The scholar strikes up a friendly conversation with the magical Djinn and he begins to tell her his incredible history of granting wishes. So, what will be her wishes, if any?

This is George Miller's first film since 2015's "Mad Max: Fury Road." Miller is currently working on the "Fury Road" prequel "Furiosa."

"Three Thousand Years of Longing" opens in theaters this Friday, August 26th. Watch the behind-the-scenes featurette, above.

synopsis:
Dr. Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic -- content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real, and second because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually, she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.
