Netflix has released the first eight-minute opening clip from the new Season 4 of the popular 1980-set sci-fi/mystery/horror series "Stranger Things."

In it, we see Matthew Modine back as Hawkins Laboratory scientist Martin Brenner. It's a flashback scene. Brenner is sitting down with a young patient boy named "Ten." Brenner is testing out the boy's telepathic skills when something horrific suddenly occurs. The door to the research lab explodes open. There's a blackout. A bloodied Brenner soon wakes up in a room filled with young murdered patients.

What happened? And who was responsible? The answer will shock you. But the clip confirms that this new season will definitely be darker and more brutal.

Created by the Duffer Brothers, "Stranger Things 4: Volume One" is due to premiere next week on May 27th on Netflix, followed by the premiere of Volume Two on July 1st. Check out the clip, above.
