Watch the new official commercial for "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," the sequel to 2020's surprise hit action-adventure comedy based on the Sega video game franchise.

Comedian Ben Schwartz returns as the voice of Sonic, the blue hedgehog with supersonic speed abilities. Comic superstar Jim Carrey is also back as Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, the mad scientist who is determined to destroy Sonic by all means necessary. James Marsden also returns as Green Hills sheriff Tom Wachowski who is Sonic's best friend.

Idris Elba has joined the cast as the voice of Knuckles the Echidna. Meanwhile, "Sonic" video game voice actress Colleen O'Shaughnessey is reprising the voice of Miles "Tails" Prower in the upcoming film, which costars Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Shemar Moore.

The sequel is once again directed by animator/visual effects artist-turned-filmmaker Jeff Fowler, who made his live-action directorial debut with "Sonic the Hedgehog."

"Sonic the Hedgehog 2" is being released in theaters on April 8th.

synopsis:
The world's favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
