Check out the first official trailer for "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," the forthcoming sequel to 2020's surprise hit action-adventure comedy based on the Sega video game franchise.

James Marsden and Ben Schwartz return as Green Hills sheriff Tom Wachowski and his little blue hedgehog friend, Sonic. In addition to Schwartz, the voice cast includes Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna and "Sonic" voice actress Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles "Tails" Prower.

Comic superstar Jim Carrey is also back as Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, the mad scientist who is determined to destroy Sonic by all means necessary.

Co-starring Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Shemar Moore, the sequel is directed by animator/visual effects artist-turned-filmmaker Jeff Fowler, who made his live-action directorial debut with "Sonic the Hedgehog."

"Sonic the Hedgehog 2" is due to open in theaters on April 8, 2022.

synopsis:
The world's favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
